SAI® Company (Private) Limited was established in the year 1962 by its founder Managing Director Mr. Zafar Iqbal for providing services and materials mainly to the oil and gas sectors of Pakistan. SAI® is very actively involved in the oil and gas business along with other diversified ventures. Mr. Zafar Iqbal is the Chairman / MD of the Group.

From April 1993, Mr. Ather Iqbal — Director / CEO and eldest son of Mr. Zafar Iqbal — formally entered the business full time after completing his B.S. and MBA from Southeastern University, Washington D.C., and is now fully active in all areas of SAI's business activities.

1962

Foundation & First Account

SAI® Company established in Karachi. First account — Corrosion & Welding Engineering Ltd. (CWE), Redhill, Surrey, England. Focus on oil & gas and textile export sectors.

1966–75

Textile Business

50 weaving looms at Shershah producing cotton shirting & silk cloth. Garment factory with 125 machines in 1967. Shirts exported to Sweden, Denmark, Norway and England. Division closed 1975.

1967

ESAB & National Supply

ESAB Goteborg, Sweden — world's largest welding equipment manufacturer — assigned exclusive sales rights to SAI®. Same year: first and last exclusive representative of National Supply Company (Armco Steel subsidiary, USA), the world's largest supplier of drilling rigs.

1976

OGDCL Milestone

First-ever American rig order placed by OGDCL through SAI®'s efforts with National Supply Company. SAI represented the entire National Supply group for 20 years until their merger with National-Oilwell.

1975–90s

Global Portfolio Expansion

Exclusive representation of Dowell Schlumberger, Milchem International, Reed Tool Company, MSA Pittsburgh, OTIS Engineering (Dallas), Ross Hill Controls, IRD Mechanalysis, Dresser Oil Tools, and many more — until mergers and acquisitions changed the landscape.

1967–2008

Hydril Company LP

SAI was Hydril's first and last representative in Pakistan for 41 years — BOPs, Tubulars, Pulsation Dampeners — until acquisition by Tenaris and GE. Also: PARCO 18″, 864 km pipeline cleaning job via McAlpine Kershaw (1996–97).

New Leadership

The Director and eldest son of the founder joins full-time after completing B.S. & MBA from Southeastern University, Washington D.C. — now fully responsible for all areas of SAI's activities and its continuing growth.

SAI® Company (Private) Limited is a single-source solution for most of the oilfield equipment, software and service needs — from premium connection tubulars, conductor pipe and large-diameter casing, X-overs, pup joints and accessories, steel line pipe, wellheads and X-mas trees, BOPs, production chokes and wellhead control panels, to downhole completion and liner products, multiphase / wet-gas / water-cut metering, pumps, compressor spares, gas-turbine filters, hot-tapping, stoppling and plugging equipment, pigs, gas-leak detection systems and pipeline repair and maintenance.

Our scope extends across low-pressure gas distribution equipment (PE, MDPE and HDPE pipe and fittings, spoolable reinforced composite and fiberglass line pipe, welding units, bursting disks), cathodic protection, gas / LPG odorization, chemical-injection skids and metering pumps, sampling systems, and complete production-facility packages — separators, scrubbers, slug catchers, degassers, knock-out and flash drums and enhanced oil-recovery systems. We also deliver SPM, FSO and FPSO systems, pipeline-integrity management, intelligent pigging and cleaning, fitness-for-purpose and risk-based inspection, OCTG / tank / flow-line inspection, quality surveillance and third-party inspection in Pakistan and overseas, and Total Asset Integrity Management Services (TAIMS). Our LPG range covers dispensers, tanks, station equipment, underground and modular filling stations, flowmeters, pumps, compressors, road tankers, car kits and cylinders — a complete solution to the oil and gas industry.

Helped Dowell Schlumberger establish their base in Pakistan and secured their first-ever service contract from OGDCL and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL).

Milchem International Ltd. Houston, Texas

Later became MilPark Drilling Fluids. Represented for about 20 years, supplying mud chemicals to oil and gas companies across Pakistan.
